What are the Adjuster Exam Prep education requirements for New Mexico?

New Mexico does not require licensing candidates to complete pre-licensing education; however, it is recommended to complete an exam prep course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

How to get an insurance adjuster license in New Mexico

  1. Meet the general eligibility criteria
    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be a resident of, and actually residing in, the state of New Mexico
    • Be in compliance with other applicable qualifications and requirements of the New Mexico Insurance Code
  2. Prepare for state licensing exam
    • Use the WebCE Exam Prep courses to better prepare you to pass the state licensing exam.
  3. Apply for a License
    • Complete the insurance license application online at www.nipr.com
    • Once the application is approved, you will be sent an email notification of eligibility and instructions for scheduling the exam. The application is valid for 6 months. If you fail to pass your state exam within this timeframe, you will have to submit a new application and registration form, and you will have to pay the appropriate fees again.
  4. Register and pass state licensing exam
    • Starting October 21, 2024, a resident candidate will be able to schedule through the PSI website for their examination, which test seating will begin October 31, 2024. Office of Superintendent of Insurance has contracted with PSI to conduct its examination program. PSI provides in-person and remote testing. Individuals may schedule their examinations online by visiting https://test-takers.psiexams.com/nmins or by calling 855-560-3714.
    Before making an exam reservation, applicants should thoroughly review the State of New Mexico Licensing Candidate Handbook by clicking on the Student Handbook button above.
  5. Submit fingerprints for background check
    • New Mexico requires all resident insurance licensing candidates to attach a copy of the 3M Cogent Proof of Fingerprint Submission Receipt to their license application.
    • Fingerprinting registration information can be found on www.osi.state.nm.us website.

  • WebCE suggests students pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Practice exam with a score of 70% or higher and then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE New Mexico Adjuster Exam Prep courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for New Mexico Adjuster Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after passing the WebCE course exam. Certificates are for personal records and is not required for the state exam.

What are the New Mexico Adjuster Exam Prep Exam Prep requirements for non-residents?

New Mexico will continue to collaborate with the NAIC and interested parties in the evolving adjuster community. Changes to the New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) 13.4.8 take effect April 1, 2025, and OSI understands the time allocated for meeting compliance is unlikely, therefore this requirement will begin to be enforced upon renewal licenses with an expiration date of April 2026 and ongoing.


Requirements for individual nonresident adjusters:

  • Must have an Active resident or DHS license, prior to applying with our department.
  • Only eligible for the same License type and Lines of Authority held in Resident State. (A background check is NOT required for this license type, unless New Mexico is going to be the individual’s DHS license.)
  • Must have a resident license in the home state, if not, must select an acceptable DHS jurisdiction
  • State must require a passed examination.
  • State must have CE requirement – If the resident state issues the license but does not have a CE requirement, the adjuster can complete the education with an approved NM provider or with an approved state.
  • The following states do not have a CE requirement for adjusters and therefore cannot be selected as a DHS. NM will not accept a DHS from: AZ, CT, HI, ME, MI, NY, SC, VT.
  • If you live in a state that does not issue adjuster licensing, you will be required to have a DHS.
  • NM will accept the following states as DHS option for applicants whose resident state does not license adjusters. AL, AR, FL, ID, IN, KY (only for IA), LA, MN, MT, NH, NC, NV, OK, TX, UT, WA, WV, WY
  • An online application may be submitted online through www.nipr.com
