What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for New Mexico?

New Mexico does not require licensing candidates to complete pre-licensing education; however, it is recommended to complete an exam prep course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

How to get an insurance license in New Mexico

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a resident of, and actually residing in, the state of New Mexico
- Be in compliance with other applicable qualifications and requirements of the New Mexico Insurance Code
Prepare for state licensing exam
- Use the WebCE Exam Prep courses to better prepare you to pass the state licensing exam.
Register and pass state licensing exam
- Effective August 27th Prometric will no longer administer NM state exams. PSI has been selected to administer Licensing Examinations for New Mexico effective August 27. Unfortunately, per OCI there will be a blackout period from August 27th- October 20th where testing will be temporarily unavailable. Scheduling will open back up on October 21st and seating will begin October 31st. New Mexico will be offering a 90-day Temporary Insurance Producer License during our “blackout” period while we are switching Insurance Examination Vendors.
  As of Friday, August 30, 2024, a resident candidate will be able to apply for a Temporary Insurance Producer License through NIPR.The resident candidate will be required to complete fingerprints before they can apply for this temporary license. Starting October 21, 2024, a resident candidate will be able to schedule through the PSI website for their examination, which test seating will begin October 31, 2024.

Submit fingerprints for background check
- New Mexico requires all resident insurance licensing candidates to attach a copy of the Proof of the Fingerprint Submission Receipt to their license application. All applicant fingerprint background checks will be processed electronically. The fee is $59.00. Registration for fingerprinting can be done with IDEMIA. - Complete the insurance license application online at www.nipr.com
The application is valid for 6 months. If you fail to pass your state exam within this timeframe, you will have to submit a new application and registration form, and you will have to pay the appropriate fees again.

What are the WebCE New Mexico Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

WebCE insurance exam prep courses follow the state exam content outlines. Students should read each lesson before proceeding to the next lesson.
WebCE suggests students pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Practice exam with a score of 70% or higher and then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

What is the access period for WebCE New Mexico Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

How often does WebCE report New Mexico Insurance Exam Prep course completions?

WebCE does not report exam prep course completions as the New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance does not require course completions to be reported.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for New Mexico Insurance Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after passing the WebCE course exam. Certificates are for personal records and is not required for the state exam.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to New Mexico?

A nonresident who is moving to New Mexico and who held a resident agent license in another state must file a license application with a Letter of Clearance from the other state.

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in New Mexico?

Non-residents may apply by reciprocity and are exempt from the examination requirement, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.

Are there any New Mexico insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Best Interest Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Effective October 1st, 2022, licensees who sell annuity products will need to complete an annuity course covering the NAIC Best Interest Standards.

Licensees who have already completed a 4-hour annuity course prior to 10/1/2022 may complete a 1-hour annuity best interest course or complete the new 4-hour annuity best interest course. Licensees will only have until 4/1/2023 to be able to take the 1-hour course.
Licensees who have not completed a 4-hour annuity course must take the annuity best interests course prior to selling annuities.

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling LTC products.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 24-month period, following the initial training requirement.

Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling flood insurance products.
