Every two years on the last day of the initial license month

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license term.

Real Estate Licensees who have completed all of their required Continuing Education (CE) credit hours--16 for a Salesperson and 24 for a Broker--in the previous licensure term, and who have completed extra credit hours in the last six months of that same licensure period, may qualify to "carry over" extra CE credit hours and apply them to their current licensure period.

No earlier than 60 days prior to your license expiration log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew. Please note that if you wish to renew on active status, you must meet the education requirements.

Renew online

• WebCE courses are classified as online distance education courses.
• Students must read the course material and answer each set of end-of-chapter quizzes with a score of at least 65 percent. Students will not be able to complete the course until the student’s time in the course equals the number of approved credit hours for the course.
• Final exams are not required for CE.
• If the end-of-chapter quiz is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard.

Every business day to the Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation (DPOR). It can take up to 6 business days from the time we report your hours before the Department updates their website.

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the course is completed.

The DPOR requires every licensee who completes a DPOR approved course to keep a notarized affidavit. This affidavit must be signed by a Notary Public and filed in your records so that it can be produced along with the course completion certificate to the DPOR upon an audit.

Non-residents are required to complete Virginia continuing education. The Board will accept up to 8 hours of approved continuing education courses that a broker or experienced salesperson completed in another state, as long as the licensee holds a current real estate license in that other state and completed these continuing education courses during the current two-year license term. These 8 out-of-state hours can be applied only to the "Real Estate Related Subjects" (elective) Continuing Education category.

In order to receive these 8 hours of Continuing Education elective credits in the "Real Estate Related Subjects" category, a licensee must submit: (1) a copy of the current out-of-state license (with its expiration date); AND (2) a copy of EACH Continuing Education course completion certificate.

The Board may grant exemptions or waive or reduce the number of continuing education hours required in cases of certified illness or undue hardship as demonstrated to the Board.
