What are the Insurance Exam Prep education requirements for Michigan?

Individuals must complete a pre-licensing course of study for the lines of authority desired before taking any examination. The prelicensing course must consist of 20 hours per line of authority on the general principles of insurance for that line of authority. The lines of authority requiring a pre-licensing course are as follows:

Life – 20 hours
Health and Accident – 20 hour
Life and Health – 40 hours
Property – 20 hours
Casualty – 20 hours
Property and Casualty – 40 hours
Personal Lines – 20 hours

How to get an insurance license in Michigan

Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be a resident of Michigan.

Complete required prelicensing education
- Prepare for the Michigan State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- After passing the WebCE Exam Prep Course Certification Exam you will receive a Certificate of Completion and your education will be reported to the state insurance department. Certificates of completion are valid for one year from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation at www.psiexams.com or by calling (855)-579-4639.
- Bring two forms of current signature identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card, credit card).
Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the State of Michigan Licensing Candidate Handbook. The Candidate Handbook and additional licensing information can be accessed by clicking on the Student Handbook button above. Passing examination results are valid for 12 months from the “pass” date

- After passing the exam, apply for your license by completing an application at www.nipr.com.

What are the WebCE Michigan Insurance Exam Prep course requirements?

Per Michigan PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the pre-license education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
Students must pass the closed-book non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification exam with a score of 70% or higher.
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
WebCE suggest to then utilize Exam Tutor and Flash Tutor for further practice before your exam day.

NOTE: The state insurance license exam, administered by PSI, has higher minimum passing grades, as follows:

Accident & Health Producer exam - 76%
Life Producer exam - 72%
Life, Accident & Health Producer exam - 75%
Property & Casualty Producer exam - 74%
Property producer exam - 75%
Casualty producer exam - 74%

What is the access period for WebCE Michigan Insurance Exam Prep courses?

90 days from the date of purchase. One additional extension for an additional 90 days can be purchased for $50.

How often does WebCE report Michigan Insurance Exam Prep course completions?

Every business day to the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS).

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Michigan Insurance Exam Prep courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately upon completion of the pre-license course. The pre-licensing education certificate of completion is valid for 12 months from the date of completion.

What is the process to transfer an insurance license to Michigan?

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will not be required to complete pre-license education or take the license examination as long as:

The application is received within 90 days of their former home state license being surrendered.
The license being applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous.
If the prior home state license was surrendered more than 90 days ago, but less than 12 months ago, the applicant can obtain a license without pre-licensing but must take the licensing examination.

What is the process to obtain a non-resident insurance license in Michigan?

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Michigan agent license, without having to complete the pre-license education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.

Are there any Michigan insurance product specific training requirements?

Before selling, soliciting or negotiating the following products, insurance license holders are required to complete the training outlined below. These training hours can be used toward the total CE hours required to renew the license.

Annuity Best Interest Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell annuity products.

Initial Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products.

Additional Information

Long-Term Care Training

State required training for insurance producers that sell long-term care products.

Initial Training
Hours: 8
Frequency: One-time training must be complete prior to selling, soliciting or negotiating LTC products.
*Residents who satisfy the training requirements of another state that are similar to Michigan's law will be deemed compliant for Michigan's requirement.

Ongoing Training
Hours: 4
Frequency: Ongoing training must be completed every 24-months license period, following the initial training requirement.
