Funeral Directors, Embalmers & Combination Licenses

In-person or Interactive Virtual Program:
Minimum 5 hours
(WebCE courses do not meet the in-person or Interactive Virtual requirement)
Online Self-Study:
Maximum 5 hours
Can Funeral CE courses be repeated?
A licensee may not repeat the same continuing education course within consecutive renewal period.
When does Funeral CE have to be completed?
The last day of the license issuance month every two years
Are there any Funeral CE credit type limits?
In-person or Interactive Virtual Program:

Can Funeral CE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?
Excess CE credit hours earned in one license term may not be carried forward to the next license term.
What is the Tennessee Funeral license renewal process?
Prior to the expiration of a license, the Board will mail a renewal application and notice of renewal fee to licensees.

What are the WebCE Tennessee Funeral CE course requirements?
WebCE courses are approved online self-study courses with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
Students will be required to confirm their presence during the course every 10 minutes.
Passing score: 70%
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
What is the access period for WebCE Tennessee Funeral CE courses?
12 months from the original date of purchase
How often does WebCE report Tennessee Funeral CE course completions?
Once a week to the Tennessee Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers
Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Tennessee Funeral CE courses?
Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees should keep all certificates a minimum of 3 years for state auditing purposes.
What are the Tennessee Funeral CE requirements for non-residents?
Non-resident licensees who hold a current license as a funeral director or embalmer in another state may satisfy their CE requirements through reciprocity, if the out of state credits meet the minimum standard requirements for Tennessee.
Resident licensees may claim credit for attendance for CE courses in other states, so long as the programs are recognized and approved by the appropriate governmental agency of that state.
Are there any CE exemptions?
New licensees during the first licensing period.
Licensees who are age 65 or older or who have been licensed continuously for 10 years on or before October 1, 2000 are exempt.
Licensees who are disabled and not practicing either funeral directing or embalming are also exempt if they submit a written exemption request to the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.
