Minnesota's Acceptance: Minnesota accepts courses from providers that are members of NASBA's National Registry of CPE Sponsors.

What are the CPA CPE requirements for Minnesota?

  • Total CPE Requirement: 120 hours each rolling 3 year period, 24 hrs must be in group or blended learning programs
  • Annual CPE Requirement: 20 hours

Are there any subject area requirements for Minnesota CPA CPE?

  • CPA Ethics: 8 hours of ethics CPE
  • Technical Subjects: Minimum of 60 CPE hours

When does Minnesota CPA CPE have to be completed?

CPE for any given year must be earned between the 7/1 - 6/30 period and reported by no later than 12/31.

Can CPA CPE courses be repeated?

Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year rolling reporting period.

Are there any CPA CPE credit type limits?

  • Instruction: Maximum 60 hours
  • Published Materials: Maximum 60 hours
  • Group or Blended Learning Programs: Minimum of 24 hours
  • Self-study: Maximum 96 hours

Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.

What is the Minnesota CPA license renewal process?

All Active and Inactive CPAs (and firms) must renew yearly by December 31 every year. The renewal window each year opens in the fall. Licensees will report their CPE hours at the time of renewal.

What are the WebCE Minnesota CPA CPE course requirements?

  • WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the access period for WebCE Minnesota CPA CPE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard. Due to regulatory guidelines, access to courses CANNOT BE EXTENDED past 12 months from the original date of purchase.

How often does WebCE report Minnesota CPA CPE course completions?

WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for Minnesota CPA CPE courses?

Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.

What are the Minnesota CPA CPE requirements for non-residents?

Nonresidents seeking exemption from Minnesota CPE requirements must claim that exemption every year by December 31.

Are there any CPE exemptions?

The Board may make an exception to the continuing education requirement in part:

  • For a licensee who is retired or who does not perform or offer to perform for the public one or more kinds of services involving the use of accounting or auditing skills
  • Individual Hardship including:
    • Health
    • Military Service
    • Foreign Residence
    • Other good cause

In order to receive an exception from CPE, a qualifying individual must submit a written request for an exception to the Board.
