New York's Acceptance: New York accepts courses from providers that are members of NASBA's National Registry of CPE Sponsors.

What are the CPA CPE requirements for New York?

Each calendar year CPAs must complete: 40 hours of CPA CPE in any of the recognized subject areas, or 24 hours of CPA CPE concentrated in one of subject areas: auditing, accounting, or taxation.

Are there any subject area requirements for New York CPA CPE?

  • CPA Ethics: 4 hours of NYSED approved ethics every 3 years
  • Recognized Subject Areas include: Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Advisory Services, Specialized Knowledge and Applications related to specialized industries. Ethics courses that include NY and AICPA rules.
  • Supervisory Role at a Firm: Any licensee who supervises attest or compilation services or signs or authorizes someone to sign the accountant's report on financial statements on behalf of a firm must complete at least 40 hours of continuing education in audit, accounting, and/or attest during the prior 3 calendar years or in the year service is performed

When does New York CPA CPE have to be completed?

1/1 to 12/31 annually

Can CPA CPE courses be repeated?

Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 3-year license term.

Are there any CPA CPE credit type limits?

A maximum of 50% of the annual requirement can be earned from the methods below:

  • Teaching or Instructing: An accepted CPE course or college/university course.
  • Published Materials: Authoring an article published in a peer-reviewed journal, or publishing a book.

Can CPA CPE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess hours earned in a CPE cycle may not be carried forward to a subsequent CPE cycle.

What is the New York CPA license renewal process?

CPAs may renew online during the final 5 months of their registration period. To renew online, CPAs must know their 7 character PIN, will be required to affirm CPE compliance, and use a credit card to pay renewal fees.

What are the WebCE New York CPA CPE course requirements?

  • WebCE courses are NASBA QAS self-study with non-monitored open-book final exams. Students should read through course material then complete exam.
  • Passing score: 70%
  • If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

What is the access period for WebCE New York CPA CPE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard. Due to regulatory guidelines, access to courses CANNOT BE EXTENDED past 12 months from the original date of purchase.

How often does WebCE report New York CPA CPE course completions?

WebCE does not report CPE course completions to the New York State Board of Public Accountancy.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for New York CPA CPE courses?

Online PDF Certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. CPAs should maintain written evidence of completion for a period of 5 years following the completion of each reporting activity.

What are the New York CPA CPE requirements for non-residents?

A non-resident licensee seeking renewal of a license in this state will be required to comply with the CPE requirement of this state.

Are there any CPE exemptions?

A licensee who claims a medical, military or other hardship adjustment may request an adjustment from CPE requirements if he or she is prevented from practicing. Medical related problems must be certified by a physician. Military adjustments require current military orders. Extreme hardship cases are handled on a case-by-case basis.
